OILY SKIN

Oily skin is the result of both genetic factors and hormonal changes experienced in an individual’s lifetime. Those with a genetic affinity to active oil glands produce a higher amount of sebum, especially if they have larger pores. Sebum is a natural oil secreted by the skin to keep itself moisturized. This oil flows from inside the epidermis to the surface of the skin through pores and hair follicles but when an excess of this oil is produced, it can expand the size of the skin’s pores and result in blockages that become pimples, acne and whiteheads. Skin pores may also become more visible because of the expansion, and the skin may appear greasy.

DRY SKIN

One characteristic of dry skin is that it appears dull and lacks the ability to evenly reflect light. This is largely owing to the fact that it is often covered in a layer of dead skin cells and is noticeably flaky. Factors which can lead to dry skin are exposure to sunlight, lifestyle, diet, hormonal changes and exfoliating with products like salicylic acid and hot baths. In dry skin conditions, it is important to stay hydrated.

SENSITIVE SKIN

Sensitive skin is one which is prone to inflammation. People with sensitive skin  have higher tendencies of acne, burning and contact dermatitis. To define normal skin types and characteristic features are, it is neither oily nor dry.
